Top 10 Ground-Type Counters for Mimikyu in Brilliant Diamond

1. Garchomp

Garchomp

Garchomp is a powerhouse and arguably the best overall choice. Its high Attack stat allows it to break through Mimikyu's Disguise and deliver significant damage with moves like Earthquake. Its speed also ensures it often attacks first.

  • Pros: High Attack and Speed, access to Earthquake.
  • Cons: Susceptible to Fairy-type moves.

2. Hippowdon

Hippowdon

Hippowdon provides a sturdy defense and can set up Sandstorm to slowly whittle down Mimikyu. Earthquake is its primary offensive move.

  • Pros: High Defense, Sand Stream ability.
  • Cons: Lower Speed compared to other options.

3. Rhyperior

Rhyperior

Rhyperior boasts incredible physical attack and defense. While slow, it can withstand a hit and retaliate with a powerful Earthquake or Stone Edge if Mimikyu is running a coverage move.

  • Pros: Extremely high Attack and Defense.
  • Cons: Very low Speed, 4x weakness to Water and Grass.

4. Mamoswine

Mamoswine

Mamoswine is a dual-type Ground/Ice Pokémon offering excellent offensive coverage. Earthquake and Ice Shard are valuable moves against Mimikyu and potential switch-ins.

  • Pros: Good Attack, Ice-type coverage.
  • Cons: Multiple weaknesses.

5. Gliscor

Gliscor, while not available until the post-game (National Dex), is a superb Ground/Flying type. Immunity to Ground moves gives it a niche advantage, and access to moves like Earthquake and Swords Dance can quickly turn the tide.

  • Pros: Ground Immunity, Swords Dance.
  • Cons: Post-game availability.

6. Steelix

Steelix is a solid defensive option. Its high Defense stat can easily shrug off Mimikyu's attacks. However, its lower attack stat means it will take longer to defeat Mimikyu, and it needs Earthquake or Iron Tail for STAB damage.

  • Pros: Very high Defense.
  • Cons: Low Special Defense, struggles with damage output.

7. Torterra

Torterra is a Grass/Ground type which isn't ideal defensively, but can work in a pinch if it's your only option. Earthquake and Razor Leaf can do super effective damage.

  • Pros: Readily available, dual-type coverage.
  • Cons: 4x weakness to Ice.

8. Nidoking/Nidoqueen

Nidoking Nidoqueen

These Poison/Ground types offer a diverse movepool. Earthquake is the primary Ground-type attack, but they also have access to other useful moves for dealing with various threats.

  • Pros: Versatile movepool.
  • Cons: Not as powerful as other options.

9. Camerupt

Camerupt is a Fire/Ground type. While its typing gives it some interesting coverage, it's not generally a top-tier choice against Mimikyu due to its lower speed and Special Defense.

  • Pros: Fire-type STAB.
  • Cons: Low speed and Special Defense.

10. Graveler/Golem

Golem

Graveler and Golem can be decent early-game options. However, they fall off in usefulness later on due to their lower stats compared to other available Ground-types. Self-Destruct can be a last-resort option.

Great list! I agree Garchomp is a beast, especially with Swords Dance. What do you guys think about using a Choice Scarf on a different Ground type to outspeed it?

This is a great list! I've also had some luck using a Swords Dance boosted Earthquake from a strong physical attacker like Hippowdon to break through Disguise and KO Mimikyu in one go.
